Rinda's Summertime Photography Scavenger Hunt 2016

Fellow blogger Rinda, is hosting her annual summertime photography scavenger hunt; I'm joining for the first time today. Below I've shared two of the scavenger hunt items that I've found and photographed so far. There are a total of 21 items on the list of things to photograph; I'll be posting additional items as I find and photograph them. This is a great way to get to know my new town, Blue Ridge, GA.

Item #13 - The Moon

Summer Solstice 2016

This photo was taken from our back deck on the night of the Summer Solstice. It was a clear beautiful night, we toasted the beginning of summer with a glass of red wine and nibbled on goat cheese rolled in cracked pepper, spread on crackers, with blackberry jam. It was a perfect night out on our new the deck!

Item #14 - A Buffet of Food

Fourth of July Buffet

This photo was taken at our Housewarming and Fireworks Party on 07/02/16.  We had friends from our camping adventures, work, church, the Atlanta Tall Club, and our new neighbors join us for dinner, buffet style.  The BBQ came from Joe's BBQ in Blue Ridge, GA. It has been voted best BBQ in north GA several years in a row...Yummy! I love the spicy sauce, it's so good....

Cheers!

2016 Summertime Photography Scavenger Hunt...

This Photo Scavenger Hunt sounds like so much fun! I've just moved to a new town so this will help me get out and about, exploring the sites of Blue Ridge, GA and the surrounding area.  Here are the details if you'd like to join too...

2016 Photography Scavenger Hunt

In the northern hemisphere, summer officially began on June 21st. And, with summer arrives the annual Photography Scavenger Hunt. The idea is simple. Maria "Rinda" Ontiveros of  http://gallorganico.blogspot.com/ posts a list of 21 items for you to find and photograph before the autumn equinox on Thursday, September 22, 2016. The list is intended to be challenging, but not impossible. Hopefully it encourages you to go on a few outings; always it requires you to be observant. You can read more about how items make the list by clicking on this link

For those of you who have blogs, post your photographs and share your adventures in finding the items. For those without blogs, keep track of your finds in some other way (a flicker account, a shutter fly album, etc.) if you want to be able to share them with the group. (It makes it easier to share if you "label" or "tag" your scavenger hunt posts, as you do them). Once a month, Maria will host a link-up so people can visit your finds, but feel free to post about the Hunt whenever you like.

There's only two rules: no fair submitting photographs taken before the start of the Hunt and have fun.

Note from Maria: "Newcomers welcome - the more, the merrier! No special photography skills are required - I love seeing everything from snapshots to fine art photography in response to the list. For pictures I take on my iphone, I'll be posting to instagram using #rindas2016photohunt." There's also a facebook page  (with big thanks to Kathryn Trotter). Ask to join, and she or I will let you in.

So, without any further ado, here's this year's list:
1. A "wild heart" - a naturally occurring heart (like the rock above, but it doesn't have to be a rock)
2. A footprint or pawprint
3. A skeleton, bone or x-ray
4. A book or magazine read during 2016
5. A porch or deck
6. A camper (caravan)
7. A family gathering
8. A drawing, art project, artistic photograph, scrapbook page, greeting card, or art journal page created by you.
9. Someone playing with, in, or around water.
10. A bicycle
11. Fresh produce
12. A window
13. The moon
14. A buffet of food
15. A team logo
16. A map showing a trip taken during the time period
17. Twins
18. A supermarket cart, basket or trolley full of groceries
19. A seasonal cocktail or beverage
20. Someone laughing
21. A photograph of you with a newspaper or calendar page from the time period covered in the Hunt. Note: you may not use a substitute for this item.
Alternatives - if you're having trouble finding any of the above, you may substitute from this list (but you may not substitute for item #21):
alternative 1: a lighthouse
alternative 2: a baby (human or animal)
Maria Said "Let me know if you have any questions. Also, if you're new to my blog or the hunt, let me know. And if you're a blogger, leave a link to your blog so I can add you to my feedly reader".

Have Fun...
Cheers!
Lori

Wednesday Hodgepodge

I’m joining the fun this week….
Sitting on the porch and answering random questions about everything under the sun….

Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.

1. It's officially summer (in the northern hemisphere anyway). Which summer month is best and why?

I feel that Summer starts in June, for me it's the best month Sweaters are packed away and swimwear moves to the sweater drawer. The water in the brook behind the house is warm enough to go tubing and the lightening bugs come out at dusk. The days are warm and the nights are still cool. Love summer nights in the mountains!

2. Can you swim? How did you learn? June 27th is National Sunglasses Day. How many pair do you own?

Yes I can swim! I don't have the best form, but I can get to the floating dock and back. I learned to swim when I was 8 years old at Camp Good Fellow in Northern Indiana. The camp was developed by US Steel for their employee's children. I went to camp each summer for 5 years.

I own three pair of sunglasses. One pair is prescription, one pair is used when I have my contacts in, and the third pair is always in the car. I have very light sensitive eyes so I'm never without a pair, rain or shine.

3.What characteristic do you judge most harshly in yourself? How about in others?

In myself? Shyness - my friends would dispute this trait; I'm good at pushing myself  to interact with others when I'm 'out there', it's not easy for me.  In others? laziness to the point of making a living by abusing some one's good nature and generosity.

4. Robert Frost wrote the now well known poem entitled The Road Not Taken. What's a road (literal or figurative) you've always wanted to travel, and where do you hope it takes you?

From my Pinterest Board: "The Path Less Traveled"

The road not taken I most regret is not going to an out of state college.  I had many acceptance letters to colleges all over the USA, but I chose to stay close to home because of my High School boyfriend...he wasn't worth the sacrifice...we broke up during my Freshman year.

I have a pinterest board called "The Path Less Traveled" that showcases beautiful paths from all over the world...I'd love to visit many/any of the paths highlighted. You can visit the board by clicking here.

5. Popsicles-yay or nay? If you answered yay, what's your favorite flavor?

NAY! I can't stand the wood stick in my mouth, this is also a problem at the doctor's office.

6.Brexit-on a scale of 1-10 how knowledgeable are you on what's involved here? (1=very knowledgeable and 10=what's Brexit) Is this news you'll follow or is it something you think won't impact your life in any way shape or form?

I'm probably a 4 because I don't understand it completely. My husband follows what is happening and is in tune with the effects on Europe and the rest of the world. He tries to keep me informed, but after a few minutes of discussion, my eyes glaze over and I start making lists in my head.

7.Share a favorite song on your summer play list.

"Hot Fun In The Summertime," Sly & The Family Stone (1969)...In the tune, each member expresses a line about what they love most about summer, however they all agree, "That's when I had most of my fun... those summer days." I agree!

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Happy Fourth of July Y'all.....

Cheers!
